How should a LinkedIn profile picture be?

A picture speaks thousand words! This digital age made us more aware of this statement. Isn't it?
But still we see a lot of confusion when we say Linked in profile picture impacts your career.
Yes, linkedIn is a professional networking site where majority of companies are recruiting through linkedIn and other social networks.

77% of all jobs are posted on LinkedIn http://bit.ly/1f4aK6s   <<Tweet this stat>>

So, as you all know very well about how a profile picture impacts and how important it is in networking. I am straight away going into the topic - How should a display picture be? My simple one liner for this question is "Your profile picture should speak about you and completely about you professionally" and the rest is your innovation.

1. Keep it simple.
A simple picture with a confident smile and no distracting accessories.
2. Use current picture
LinkedIn is a professional social networking site. People may connect with you before heading to a
meeting where they want to connect with you personally or they may come back home to connect over
linkedIn after meeting you personally. So, never use a age old picture. It might confuse them.
3. Appropriate to your industry
A professional picture might not always be the one with suit and a tie. You can be dresses in your
professional attire. Example: Chef, Doctor, Lawyer
4. Clear and with good lightening
Badly cropping a image, dim light, shades, distracting accessories..etc are definite no no. May be giving
shades ..etc can be considered for an artist or a photogrpaher by profession who wants to show a sample
in his profile picture but still it should be done keeping the other points into consideration.
5. Head shot is recommendable but not mandatory.
Still in a confusion or in a dilemma for which picture to use? Simple head shot will do. But, don't be afraid
to experiment. Here is my opinion article on lkddvnsl>>>><<<<
6. Pleasant background
Each color and background texture alters the emotional quality of image. Some people choose green or
blue backgrounds, which convey trust and stability. Colors also equally impacts and speak a lot.

Don't forget, for most of them first impression counts. And in this virtual world people will create a impression or judge us by reading our online profiles before meeting and talking to us. Infact they decide if they have to go further with talks with us by looking at our online profiles.

So, be cautious while choosing your LinkedIn profile picture! All the best!
