Life with DOORDARSHAN

A Television set in home is necessity(basic need) these days. Now a days we don't see a home (small hut even) without a television set. But Television set was a luxury some years back. My Dad bought a 21 inches color television set in 1987 when it is treated as a luxury for majority of Indians. Those times when I am in mothers womb. My brother still had some traces in his memory Dad placing set on the table, fixing the antena on the terrace and brother holding some instruments along with never ending questions which arise at that age. It is from then we had TV and only one channel for 15years  which that antena brought into--- DOORDARSHAN.
Our schedule at home use to be according to the shows schedule. I still remember the shows which made us struck to the screens. I know it will be weird if I start posting the timings of the programs.
Doordharshan is heart for government and also many Indians like me. I love to say I grew with Doordharshan. Maintaining pin drop silence during news time. Watching Steffi Graf hitting the the ball, rising the trophy high, along with my grand pa at 11 pm in the night despite his regular disciplined life of early to bed and early to rise.Watching Def and Dum news and trying to imitate on saturaday afternoons. Most awaited Sunday 4 pm Movie in regional language and saturday afternoons with some other regional movies and MAHABHARATAM era.
Those are the times when information is not in a button reach. Those are the times when not all the members of the family are litterates. Those were the times when people were moving from radio news to Television news. This small box bought in, lot of information, lot of innovation along with entertaining all age groups.
Satyam Sivam Sundaram  motto of doordarshan. It is this Doordarshan which introduced me to many famous musicians through Desh Rag Song. I use to get fasinated by the musical instruments in that song.

Watching videos of Gandiji freedom moment, Subhas Chandra Bose Army quit India moment. Enjoying those cute adds complan--But  I am growing Mummy...and in this it was Shahid Kapoor in his childhood, I love you Rasna, Goldspot adds... Most awaited two serials Malgudi Days... and Swami & friends.
Mile Sur Mera Tumhara...my most favourite one.... The Favorite one...

A very popular cultural show in 1990s... Surrabhi giving rare information about Indians and Indian culture.. another most favourite one. It use to be like discovery channel entertaining all the age groups.

Did I miss writing about any cartoon shows.. Donald was my favourite.. Alladin was again never missed.

So I am proud to say I grew up with Doordarshan...
